Islamic Engagement – Easter Attack Response

Good Shepherd Youth Society- South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.

Muslim Majlis of SEUSL and the Good Shepherd Youth Society had a friendly and productive gathering on 19th June 2019 at the Common cafeteria of SEUSL. This was presided by P. Samuel the Head of Good Shepherd Youth Society, from 5.00p.m to 7.00p.m. In this event, There was an introductory session of the management bodies, Furthermore, opinions of each party regarding the 21st attack, and the post-attack behaviour, including the future activities and programmes among the students were discussed.

In remembrance of Sri Lanka’s Easter Sunday attack victims, at South Eastern University.

There was a memorial event organized by the Good Shepherd Youth Society of South Eastern University, to remember the lives lost on the 21st Easter Sunday. In this event, the president of the Christian students union P Samuel welcomed everyone with a quote of “Be peacemakers” explaining the need for peace in the country. Consequently, all the leaders of different races spoke at the gathering. After the speeches, the students from all ethnics together expressed their sympathy with flowers and by lightening the lamps. It is a significant moment that all religious students union of the South Eastern university has participated in this event without showing any indifference between races and religions. The memorial event has ended with the quietly played national anthem.

Pera DC
Some of the Core members of the Pera fellowship met with the President of the campus Muslim society along with a few of the Majlis members on 31st May 2019.  They had a dialogue and conversed on certain things they could do together as university societies that would portray Unity amongst students of the religion they represent.  Both the groups were enthusiastic  towards planning future programs that could be done in collaboration with each other. And the Majlis members stated that they are open to dialogues and are planning to take the first move by organizing the INTELLECTUAL DIALOGUE FOR SOLIDARITY for which the Pera DC was given an official invitation.
